Pakistan awarded Sitara-e-Basalat to Pak Navy Captain involved in flood relief activities in Sri Lanka
Captain Faisal Javed Sheikh has been serving in the Pakistan Army in an outstanding manner for the last 23 years. On May 29, 2017, Pakistan Navy Ship Zulfiqar was directed to sail immediately to take part in flood relief operations under the command of Captain Javed Sheikh in Colombo, Sri Lanka. His ship arrived at port of Colombo within 24 hours limited time.
In Sri Lanka, he arranged teams to conduct relief operation and establish a Flood Relief Coordination Centre as well. Due to this centre, 87 sailors of Pakistan Navy worked continuously for 4,000 hours for providing successful relief operations.
As a result of these efforts, 870 Sri Lankan flood victims were provided medical facilities at Medical Camps of Pakistan Navy, 950 people were provided flood relief items and 97 polluted water wells were cleaned for provision of clean drinking water.
The role of Pakistan Navy was not only recognized by the highest Sri Lankan civil and military leadership but international media also extended tribute to the unprecedented professional expertise of Pakistan Navy.
On account of Captain Javed Sheikh’s professional expertise and devotion towards his duty, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has conferred him with the “Sitrat-e-Basalat” medal of Pakistan.
