Pakistan awards Prestigious Jinnah Scholarship to 69 brilliant Sri Lankan Students in Kandy
The Government of Pakistan through its High Commission in Sri Lanka has awarded SL Rs 1.7 Million worth of educational scholarships last evening to 69 bright Sri Lankan students of O/L and A/L under the first Phase of Jinnah Scholarship Programme 2014.
Under the auspices of High Commission of Pakistan, award ceremony of Jinnah Educational Scholarship 2014 was held at Jinnah Hall, Kandy.
Hon. Tikiri Banda Kobbekaduwa, Governor Central Province, graced the award ceremony as chief guest. The event was also attended by a large number of students and their families along with Pakistan High Commission officials, dignitaries and a large section of media.
In his welcome address, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, H. E. Major Gen (R) Qasim Qureshi congratulated the students for their academic achievements, and expressed the hope that they would continue to excel in their academic pursuits.
The Chief Guest, Hon. Tikiri Banda Kobbekaduwa, Governor Central Province, in his address praised the Government of Pakistan for its generous assistance to Sri Lanka.
The award ceremony for Phase II of Jinnah Scholarships will be held on June 13, 2014 in Colombo at the Annanda College Auditorium.
The Government of Pakistan is awarding the Jinnah Educational Scholarship since 2005. During the past 09 years, over SL Rs. 35 million worth of educational scholarships under Jinnah Scholarship Programme have been awarded to thousands of deserving students.
This scholarship scheme is named after the great statesman and leader, Quaid–e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, who is the founder of Pakistan.
In addition to Jinnah Educational Scholarships, every year Government of Pakistan offers fully funded scholarships in Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy and Dentistry to Sri Lankan students to pursue higher professional education in Pakistan.
