Pakistan awards prestigious Jinnah Scholarship 2013 to 150 brilliant Sri Lankan Students
The Government of Pakistan through its High Commission in Sri Lanka has awarded SL Rs 3 Million worth of educational scholarships today to 150 bright Sri Lankan students of O/L and A/L under Jinnah Scholarship Programme 2013.
Under the auspices of High Commission of Pakistan, Colombo, award ceremony of Jinnah Educational Scholarship 2013 was held at the Ananda College Auditorium.
Hon. Mohan Lal Grero, Coordinating MP for Ministry of Education graced the award ceremony as chief guest. The event was also attended by a large number of students and their families along with Pakistan High Commission officials, dignitaries and a large section of media. In his welcome address, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, H. E. Major Gen (R) Qasim Qureshi congratulated the students for their academic achievements, expressing hope that they would continue to excel in their academic pursuits.
The Government of Pakistan is awarding the Jinnah Educational Scholarship since 2005. During the past 8 years, SL Rs. 30 million worth of scholarships have been awarded to over a thousand deserving students.
This scholarship scheme is named after the great statesman and leader, Quaid–e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, who is the founder of Pakistan.
In addition to Jinnah Educational Scholarships, every year Government of Pakistan offers fully funded scholarships in Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy and Dentistry to Sri Lankan students to pursue higher professional education inPakistan.
The Chief Guest, Honourable Mohan Lal Grero, in his address praised the Government of Pakistan for its generous assistance to Sri Lanka. He said that Pakistan is a close friend of Sri Lanka and has helped Sri Lanka in times of crisis. He added that this scholarship programme has benefited students from all communities over the past eight years.
