Pakistan High Commissioner inaugurates fresh water wells during visit of Eastern Province
H.E Major General (R) Umar Farooq Burki HI (M) inaugurated 102 individual & community water wells in Addalachenai during his visit of Eastern Province. This drinking water well project is first of its kind initiated by Pakistan High Commission, Sri Lanka on behalf of the Government of Pakistan. This project is benefitting more than 150 families in that area. These wells are part of a project which targets different parts of the Sri Lankan Island specifically the areas where water table is very low and it is very difficult for the local deprived community to get fresh water for drinking, irrigation and other routine matters. The project started from Northern Province where community wells situated at 15 different locations were gifted to the people of Mannar in November last year.
During the visit, H.E also distributed school bags and sports items among chilren of different ages.
This tour of H.E the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Eastern Province was multi-faceted and the response received from the local community was over whelming. H.E was warmly welcomed wherever he visited and these activities of Pakistan High Commission, Sri Lanka on behalf of the Government of Pakistan were highly appreciated by all of them. Government of Pakistan will continue such and many more goodwill activities which will benefit people of Sri Lanka regardless of gender, age or ethnicity.
During his speech at the inaugural ceremony, H.E the High Commissioner also reiterated the resolve of Government of Pakistan to continue to help the local & deserving communities of our friendly nation in every possible way in the spirit of excellent bilateral relations & friendship that so happily exists between the two brotherly countries.
